A sports supplement “stack” is any nutritional product that integrates several ingredients or supplements in a manner that they work synergistically, making each element more effective. Once you have a great work-out and healthy diet in place, the difference between good results and great results often boils down to a supplement stack. The right stack can help you achieve results faster and more efficiently than diet and exercise alone.
Stacking supplements ensures your body is getting the necessary nutrition it needs to thrive and attain your goal physique. Different stacks work in different ways; some are designed for muscle gain, repair and recovery, while others help with boosting energy, fat loss, or just general health. Whatever your goal, the key is to find the right supplement stack to work with your body.
Most sport supplement stacks are made up of a combination of the following ingredients: whey protein, creatine, vitamins and minerals, amino acids, testosterone builders, glutamine, and ZMA. Many athletes or body builders can get away with simply a whey protein or creatine supplement to enhance their work out and recovery and a good multi-mineral and multi-vitamin to keep up energy and immunity. More serious body builders, however, will need an advanced stack of supplements to ensure their bodies are replenishing what is lost after a taxing work out.
Supplements can be pricey, so doing your homework is key when choosing supplements. Stacking can often be more price effective because they combine several supplements into one product, leaving out some of the cost and guesswork of using individual supplements.
If you are new to stacking, selecting supplements from the same brand can help simplify the decision of what to take. Oftentimes products of the same brand name are designed to work in unison with each other. For the more advanced stacker, picking and choosing among various brands will allow you to customize and personalize your stack to your specific needs and goals.
Always follow the instructions listed on the supplements you take. Some supplements are meant to be taken in the morning or before bed, while others should be taken pre or post-workout. Again, make sure you’ve got a great diet in place – supplements will not make up for lack of healthy eating.
Remember, always check with your doctor before beginning new supplements to assure that you do not have any pre-existing conditions that may require excluding certain supplements.
